INSECTICIDE deltamethrin, 2%, 5l, for fumigation, jerrycan

Definition

Aqua K-Othrine is a water-based pyrethroid space spray concentrated aqueous emulsion (EW) intended for use during space spray operations.

It is specifically designed for dilution in WATER ONLY, which can be applied by ultra low volume, thermal fogging, or misting machines for the rapid reduction of flying insects to temporarily interrupt the transmission cycle of specific insect-borne diseases.

Mosquitoes, houseflies, other biting flies and flying insects may be targeted by space spraying.

Specifications

  • Active ingredient: deltamethrin ( pyrethroid) 2% (20g/L)
  • Incorporates anti-evaporant Film Forming Aqueous Spray Technology (FFAST) to facilitate dilution in water whilst maintaining effective droplet size under various climatic conditions.

Packaging & Labelling

  • 5 litre plastic jerrycan.
  • Contains 20 gram of active ingredient per litre. A 5 litre jerrycan contains 100 gram of active ingredient.

Instructions for use

  • Space spraying is a complex activity, requiring technical expertise with only a temporary effect with little or no residual effect.
  • Refer to: "Public Health Engineering In Precarious situations", MSF, 2nd edition, 2010: Chapter 7, Vector Control.
  • Apply according to product label instructions, using appropriate application equipment and personal protective equipment.
  • Product may be applied by ultra low volume, thermal fogging, or misting machines.
  • Equipment must be capable of producing and distributing droplets of volume mean diameter value below 50 microns.
  • Dilute product according to instructions on label specific for application method and output rate required using clean water and visofume
  • When intended for use outdoors with visiofume
    • 50 ml of 2% Aqua K-Othrine is meant to be mixed with 4450 ml of water & 500 ml of visiofume when applied using MSF-approved thermal fogger to treat 1 hectare
    • 50ml of 2% Aqua K-Othrine is meant to be mixed with 4950 ml of water when applied using MSF-approved thermal fogger to treat 1 hectare
  • Initially spray rounds should be every other day for 7-10 days to kill newly emerged adults and then a maitenance phase of weekly sprays may be appropriate.
  • Generally, to achieve optimum results for fly control; application, targeting resting and breeding areas, should take place in the morning when flies are likely at ground level and have not dispersed.
  • Generally, to achieve optimum results for Aedes mosquito control; application should take place in early morning or dusk hours.
  • Generally, space spraying is not recommended as a malaria vector control measure.
  • When planning a space spraying activity, refer to your technical WATSAN referent for advice.

Precautions for Use

  • Prepare only the amount of solution required for immediate use
  • Keep out of reach of children
  • Do not eat, drink or smoke during the application of insecticides
  • Do not apply in areas where food is prepared or eaten or where spray may come into direct contact with food
  • Harmful if swallowed and will irritate eyes; avoid contact with eyes and skin
  • Avoid working spray mist
  • If poisoning is suspected call a physician and provide the product label
  • In the event of contact with the skin, remove all contaminated clothing and wash affected body parts immediately with plenty of soap and water
  • Rinse splashes in the eyes with abundant fresh and clean water for at least 15 minutes
  • If inhaled remove individual to clean air immediately
  • Wash thoroughly after direct contact and seek medical advice if needed, in case of skin irritation and/or eye irritation
  • Wear personal protective equipment (FFP2 respirator, goggles, overalls, gloves, boots, hat, and apron) when handling, mixing and applying the insecticide as well as equipment cleaning
  • Mechanical applicators can be noisy. The use of ear protection is recommended.
  • After application persons should shower and wash all PPE
  • Remove all food, cooking utensils, water storage containers, persons, domestic animals, and other removable items before application
  • Cover all non-removable items with plastic sheeting in a central location within a household or structure during application
  • Spray operators should be closely supervised and well-trained with clear instructions about storage, handling, application and individual personal protection
  • The public should be well informed in advance about the purpose and schedule of operations and how they can cooperate.

Storage

  • It is desirable to store insecticide stock and fumigation equipment in a stand-alone structure
  • Product should be stored under lock-and-key away from children, food and animals
  • Do NOT store below +5°C or above +35°C
  • Store in tightly sealed original containers in a cool, dry and well-ventilated area out of direct sunlight

Waste management

  • Plastic containers should be TRIPLE RINSED using clean water. The rinsate may be added, along with clean water and visiofume, directly to spray tank for application
  • Empty containers should be punctured a minimum of 3 times to discourage any potential future use in the event of an empty container being lost within the community
  • Supervision of handling of empty containers to dedicated storage area is essential
  • Do NOT burn empty containers or products
  • Do NOT dispose of undiluted chemicals on-site
  • This product is hazardous to the environment
  • Residues or discarded/expired product should not be disposed of with regular waste
  • Prevent contaminated effluent from entering drains, sewers or any body of water by using a properly constructed soak away pit for waste and rinse water
  • Contact your technical referent for advice on appropriate waste disposal
