Definition

Insecticide used to reduce the incidence of mosquitoes and other vectors that can be harmful to public health.

Deltamethrin is a fast acting, pyrethroid insecticide, used to control a wide range of pests and vectors. It is effective against insects via ingestion and direct contact.

Deltamethrin is highly toxic to humans and other mammals and is a neurotoxin. It poses a high risk to most aquatic organisms and honeybees, is relatively non-toxic to birds and earthworms. It has a low potential to leach into groundwater.

Instructions for use

Follow the instructions of use on the sachets and the vector control guidelines closely.

Precautions for Use

  • Keep out of reach of children
  • Do not eat, drink or smoke during the application of insecticides
  • Do not inhale powder and avoid direct contact with eyes and skin
  • If poisoning is suspected call a physician and provide the product label
  • In the event of contact with the skin, remove all contaminated clothing and wash affected body parts immediately with plenty of soap and water
  • Rinse splashes in the eyes with abundant fresh and clean water for several minutes
  • If inhaled remove individual to clean air immediately
  • Wash thoroughly after direct contact and seek medical advice if needed, in case of skin irritation and/or eye irritation
  • Wear personal protective equipment (FFP2 respirator, goggles, overalls, gloves, boots, hat, and apron) when handling, mixing and applying the insecticide
  • After application persons should shower and wash all PPE
  • Remove all food, cooking utensils, water storage containers, persons, domestic animals, and other removable items before application
  • Cover all non-removable items with plastic sheeting in a central location within a household or structure during application
  • Spray operators should be well-trained with clear instructions about storage, handling, application and individual personal protection
  • Supervise the handling of empty containers back to storage
  • This product is hazardous to the environment
  • Residues or discarded/expired product should not be disposed of with regular waste
  • Prevent spill from entering drains, sewers or any body of water by using a properly constructed soak away pit for waste water and rinse water
  • Contact your technical referent for appropriate disposal procedures

Storage

  • It is desirable to store insecticide stock and spray equipment in a stand-alone structure
  • Product should be stored under lock-and-key away from children, food and animals
  • Do NOT stack containers in piles more than 2 metre high, in order to avoid product compaction
  • Do NOT store below +5°C or above +35°C
  • Store in tightly sealed original containers in a cool, dry and well-ventilated area out of direct sunlight

Waste management

  • Do NOT dispose of undiluted chemicals on-site
  • Insecticide solution, undiluted product, or rinse wastewater must not enter waterways
  • Contact your technical referent for advice on appropriate waste disposal
