Therapeutic Action
Antiprotozoal active against Pneumocystis jiroveci (carinii), antitrypanosomal
Indications
Second-line treatment of pneumocystis, in case of intolerance or contraindications to sulfamethoxazole-trimethoprim (cotrimoxazole).

Instructions for use
Reconstitute the powder vial with 10 ml of water for injection.
The reconstituted solution must be given as deep IM injection or IV infusion in 250 ml of 5% glucose.
1 mg pentamidine isétionate is equivalent to 0.57 mg pentamidine base.
300 mg pentamidine isetionate (1 vial) is equivalent to 172.4 mg pentamidine base.
Pentamidine is preferred to suramin (risk of major side effects in filariasis endemic areas).
Storage
- Below 25°C - Protect from sunlight
- After reconstitution, keep the solution refrigerated between 2°C and 8°C for a maximum of 24 hrs.
