Therapeutic Action

Vasodilator, antianginal

Indications

Prophylaxis and treatment of angina pectoris due to coronary artery disease.

Treatment of left-sided or global chronic heart failure in patients with intolerance to angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors (e.g. enalapril)

Adjunctive therapy in acute heart failure (acute pulmonary oedema)

Not indicated for the relief of accute angina attacks; for an accute attack, use sublingual glyceril trinitrate tablets.

Instructions for use

Chew the tablet and let it melt slowly under the tongue.

For long-term treatment, prefer the prolonged-release formulation to reduce the risk of tolerance and increase patient compliance.

Precautions for Use

To be used in adults only.

Contraindications:

  • Hypotension
  • Obstructive myocardiopathy (e.g., aortic or mitral stenosis, constrictive pericarditis)
  • Intracranial hypertension
  • Neurologic injury
  • Severe anaemia

Most common side effects: headache, dizziness, fatigue, nausea, tachycardia.
