Therapeutic Action

Antiretroviral, nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NRTI)

Indications

Chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection in adults with impaired renal function and children from 2 to 12 years of age.

Instructions for use

Must be taken on an empty stomach (more than 2 hours before and more than 2 hours after a meal).

Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF), another antiretroviral NRTI, is recommended as first-line treatment for chronic hepatitis B virus infection in adults and children from 12 years of age.

Precautions for Use

Administer with caution in patients with renal impairment. Closely monitor renal function .

The most common side effects include headache, fatigue, dizziness, and nausea.

Spontaneous exacerbations in chronic hepatitis B are relatively common and are characterised by transient increases in serum ALT.
