Swabs containing reagents used for the detection of cytochrome oxidase activity in bacteria
Specifications
- Organisms which contain cytochrome c as part of their respiratory chain are oxidase-positive and turn the reagent blue/ purple.
- Organisms lacking cytochrome c as part of their respiratory chain do not oxidize the reagent, leaving it colourless, and are oxidase-negative
- Reagents are impregnated in the tip of the swab for ease of use

Technical specifications
- Oxidase Swabs are impregnated with N,N,N',N'-tetramethyl-p-phenylenediamine dihydrochloride, in a preservative solution
- Appearance of a blue/purple color within 30 seconds indicates a positive test.
- Important: Any color appearing after this time should be disregarded.
- To be used on isolated bacteria colonies

Storage
- Upon receipt store at 15°C-30ºC.
- Store with dessicant in the vial at all times.
- Shelf life: 12 months
- Guaranteed minimum remaining shelf life at delivery: 1/3 of total shelf life
Waste management
After use, sterilize the cultures and all contaminated material. Contact your watsan referent for advice on proper disposal.
