Therapeutic Action
Semi-synthetic, aminoglycoside antibiotic active against a broad spectrum of Gram-negative organisms, including pseudomonas and some Gram-positive organisms
Indications
Short-term treatment of serious infections due to susceptible strains of Gram-negative bacteria, including Pseudomonas species
Nosocomial and ventilator-associated pneumonia, including COVID
Caution!Amikacin is no longer indicated for DR-TB as it is progressively removed from the short-term oral regimen following WHO recommendations.
