GLUCOSE for OGTT in powder
Definition
Anhydrous glucose in powder used to perform the Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT).
Specifications
Each sachet of OGTT contains 75g of anhydrous glucose, which is the adult dose recommended by WHO in glucose tolerance testing.
Instructions for use
Dissolve one 75 g powder pouch in 200-300 ml of warm / room temperature water while simultaneously stirring with a spoon or spatula.
After an initial fasting blood sugar test, the patient ingests a dose of pure anhydrous glucose followed by a succession of blood tests every 30 minutes for 2 to 3 hours to monitor the blood sugar level. If the blood sugar level does not fall, diabetes is diagnosed.
The test is usually performed in a laboratory.
