Indications

Second-line treatment for severe diphtheria.

Azithromycin is the preferred option as it is much better tolerated by patients, and with a once daily administration.

Instructions for use

Reconstitute the powder vial with 20 ml of water for injection.

Dilute the reconstituted solution in 0.9% NaCl.

Must be given as IV infusion only (intermittent or continuous).

IV erythromycin should be replaced by erythromycin PO as soon as
possible.

Erythromycin may be used as an alternative to azithromycin in case of supply constraints.

Precautions for Use

Bolus injection (IV) push) is contraindicated.

  • Below 25ºC
  • After reconstitution, use the solution immediately.
