HYDRALAZINE

Therapeutic Action

Antihypertensive vasodilator

Indications

Hypertension in pregnancy, in case of severe symptoms or when oral treatment is not possible.

Instructions for use

Reconstitute the 20 mg powder vial with 1 ml of water for injection.

The reconstituted solution must be given as slow IV injection (diluted in 9 ml of 0.9% NaCl), or as IV infusion in 500 ml of 0,9% NaCl or Ringer lactate.

Closely monitor the blood pressure to adjust the dosage.

Hydralazine and dihydralazine are similar, with the same indications and dosage.

Labetalol injectable may be used as an alternative.

Precautions for Use

Only use 0.9% NaCl or Ringer lactate for dilution and as infusion vehicle, as hydralazine is incompatible with glucose and other solutions.

Storage

  • Below 25°C - Protect from sunlight
  • After reconstitution, use the solution immediately.
