LEVONORGESTREL implant

Therapeutic Action

Progestogen contraceptive for subdermal insertion.

Implant composed of 2 flexible silicone-based polymer rods.

Each rod is 43 mm in length, 2.5 mm in diameter, and contains 75 mg levonorgestrel.

Indications

Long-acting contraception, for a maximum of five years, after which the implant must be changed.

Instructions for use

To be inserted sub-dermally (subcutaneous use), into the inner side of the non-dominant arm, 8-10 cm from the bony process of the elbow and 3-5 cm below the biceps, under local anaesthetic and aseptically.

Equipment needed for insertion

For information on insertion and removal, follow the manufacturer's instructions.

Implant supplied with a trocar, in set of 10 (= 10 implants + 10 trocars). The minimum order quantity varies according to the supply centres (10 or 100). Code and label are defined per unit (1 implant + 1 trocar).

Therapeutic alternative: etonogestrel implant with a duration of action of 3 years.
