Therapeutic Action

Antiulcer (proton pump inhibitor)

Indications

Peptic ulcer perforation

Reduction of gastric acidity in patients at risk of aspiration prior to induction of anaesthesia

Instructions for use

Reconstitute the powder vial as follows:

  • Using a syringe, withdraw 5 ml from a 100 ml bottle of 0.9% NaCl.
  • Add this volume to the powder vial of omeprazol and shake until complete dissolution of the contents.
  • Withdraw the reconstituted omeprazol solution and transfer it to the remainder of the 100 ml bottle of 0.9% NaCl.

Administer the 100 ml bottle containing the diluted omeprazol by IV infusion.

In case of perforated peptic ulcer, use IV omeprazole first and switch to PO omeprazole as soon as the patient can swallow (omeprazole is as effective orally as intravenously).

Injectable omeprazol replaces injectable cimetidine and ranitidine.

Storage

  • Below 25°C - Protect from sunlight
  • Shelf life: 18 to 24 months depending on the manufacturer
  • After reconstitution/dilution, use the product immediately.
