Tetracycline antibacterial

Indications

Cholera, uncomplicated cutaneous anthrax, louse-borne and tick-borne relapsing fevers, epidemic typhus and other rickettsioses, plague, brucellosis, leptospirosis, lymphogranuloma venereum

Lymphatic filariasis, alternative to ivermectin in onchocerciasis

Alternative to first-line treatments for treponematosis, atypical pneumonia, cervicitis and urethritis caused by Chlamydia trachomatis, donovanosis, syphilis

Instructions for use

Take in the middle of a meal with a large glass of water (100 ml) and at least one hour before bedtime.

Doxycycline replaces tetracycline for most of its indications due to its better pharmacological profile and more affordable treatment.

The salt form may vary depending on the source, such as hydrochloride or hyclate.

Precautions for Use

Dysphagia, oesophagitis and oesophageal ulceration may occur, exacerbated by taking doxycyxline lying down and/or with a small quantity of water.

Never administer expired doxycycline.
