Analgesic

Indications

Neuropathic-specific adjuvant with analgesic and opioid-sparing effects, and preventive effect on peripheral neuropathic pain.

Consider in the preoperative period for some patients:

  • undergoing major surgery, thoracotomy, or amputation
  • with pre-existing neuropathic pain or risk factors
  • with anticipated high levels of pain (opioid-sparing)

Consider in the postoperative period for some patients:

  • who underwent major surgery
  • who underwent thoracotomy
  • who underwent an amputation
  • with anticipated high levels of pain (opioid-sparing)
  • not responding to standard analgesia

in association with amitryptiline.

Precautions for Use

Adverse effects: dizziness, sedation.

In some countries, gabapentin is subject to national regulations as a controlled medicine.
