Gestational and chronic hypertension in pregnant women

Instructions for use

Labetalol is considered as the first-line treatment for hypertension in pregnancy, with Nifedipine as the second alternative and methyldopa as the third due to more side effects and lower effectiveness. Contact you SRH advisor to determine the best option for your program and context.

Precautions for Use

Do not administer to patients with active liver disease, history of drug-induced hepatitis, severe depression.

Possible side effects:

  • orthostatic hypotension, drowsiness, headache, gastrointestinal disturbances, dry mouth;
  • rarely: haematological, hepatic, mental disorders; allergic reactions
