CAUTION

This multidose vaccine is worded and codified by unit (= 1 dose) to make the order easier.

Therapeutic Action

Pentavalent vaccine containing diphtheria and tetanus toxoids (purified), pertussis antigen (whole cell inactivated), hepatitis B surface antigen (purified) and Haemophilus influenzae type b polysaccharide (highly purified, conjugated to a Tetanus toxoid) .

Liquid form.

Indications

Active immunisation against diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, hepatitis B and haemophilus influenzae type b in children from 6 weeks to 7 years of age.

Vaccine usually supplied by the Ministry of Health of the country concerned.

Orders are always done in number of doses and not in number of vials! (See Preliminary remarks on Vaccines)

Instructions for use

Suspension in liquid form

Shake the vial before use to homogenise the suspension.

Must be given by IM route, preferably in the anterolateral aspect of the thigh (children < 2 years) or into the deltoid muscle.

Follow the national immunisation schedule, or failing that, the WHO schedule.

Precautions for Use

Do not administer into the gluteal muscle.

As with all injectable vaccines and/or immunoglobulins, appropriate medical treatment should always be readily available in case of rare anaphylactic reactions following the administration of the product.

Storage

  • Keep refrigerated between 2ºC and 8ºC - Protect from sunlight
  • Do not freeze.
  • The vaccine vial monitor (VVM) is mandatory on each vaccine.
  • For multidose vials, refer to WHO policy on the use of opened vials of vaccine.
