VACCINE Td (tetanus/diphtheria booster)

CAUTION

This multidose vaccine is worded and codified by unit (= 1 dose) to make the order easier.

Therapeutic Action

Bivalent adsorbed vaccine containing purified tetanus and diphtheria toxoids (with a reduced dose of diphtheria component).

Indications

Prevention of tetanus in wound management
Prevention of tetanus and diphtheria in pregnant women or women of childbearing age
Prevention of tetanus and diphtheria in children over 4 years and adolescents (booster dose after complete primary vaccination)

Gradually replacing the TT vaccine (tetanus), including for women of childbearing age and pregnant women.

The choice between TT and Td vaccine will depend on which vaccine is introduced and registered in the country where it will be used.

Instructions for use

Suspension in liquid form

Shake the vial before use to homogenise the suspension.

Must be given by IM route into the deltoid muscle.

Follow the national immunisation schedule, or failing that, the WHO schedule.

The multidose vial is usually supplied by the Ministry of Health of the country concerned.

Orders are always done in number of doses and not in number of vials! (See Preliminary remarks on Vaccines)

Precautions for Use

As with all injectable vaccines and/or immunoglobulins, appropriate medical treatment should always be readily available in case of rare anaphylactic reactions following the administration of the product.

Storage

  • Keep refrigerated between 2ºC and 8ºC
  • Do not freeze.
  • The vaccine vial monitor (VVM) is mandatory on each vaccine in multi-dose presentation.
