Attached to either end of a Steinmann pin (for femoral or tibial traction) and connected by a rope to a weight, the stirrup is used to apply traction on a limb:

  • transcondylar femoral or transtuberosity tibial for femoral fractures
  • transcalcaneal for tibial fractures
