A flat shallow vessel, usually with a raised rim, providing a suitable platform for containing many medical, usually surgical instruments and items. It is typically made of stainless steel and designed to fit into other devices, e.g. sterilizers.

  • Stainless steel: most often an austenitic chromium-nickel alloy is used (grade 304 = 18/10 or 18/8 stainless steel)
  • Rectangular or square basket
  • Rounded, non solid corners
  • Close-mesh netting (less than 5 x 5 mm)
  • Possibly with tilting handles

Instructions for use

  • Place the instruments to be sterilized in a basket
  • Wrap the filled basket in 2 sheets of sterilization paper (see related articles below):
    • ESURBSTE241, ESURBSTE25- and ESURBSTE255: use sheets of 75 x 75 cm
    • ESURBSTE35- and ESURBSTE40-: use sheets of 0.9 x 0.9 m
    • ESURBSTE50-: use sheets of 1.2 x 1.2 m
  • Seal the package with autoclave steam indicator tape and note the content on it before the sterilization cycle (it is also possible to use adhesive paper tape to write the content on it)

The baskets should be cleaned before each use.
