Definition

A hand-held, surgical instrument used for hooking into or around a fistula (abnormal body passages or communications, usually between two internal organs, or leading from an internal organ to an external cavity or to the surface of the body) in order to grasp it during a surgical intervention. It is typically a shaft-like instrument with a sharp single hook at the distal end and a handle at the proximal end.
