Starter dry battery, 12 V, without electrolyte

    Specifications

    • Starter batteries deliver a high current for a very short time.
    • They are continuously recharged by the engine and they must not be discharged by more than 20% of their capacity.
    • They are DRY CHARGED lead/acid batteries which require the addition of liquid electrolyte. "Dry charged" means that the battery has already been charged in the factory. The charge is triggered when electrolyte is poured into the battery. The chemical process starts and the battery reaches its full capacity after a few hours.

    The actual capacity of a starter battery is not a very useful piece of data since it is not intended to be discharged. On the other hand, the maximum current in amperes that the battery can deliver for a short period is an important specification. The higher the capacity, the higher the maximum current. For this reason starter batteries are described in terms of their capacity in amp hours.

    Maximum current or "cold cranking amps" (CCA)

    This is the maximum current, in amperes, that can be supplied by a starter battery for 3 minutes.

    Colder climates require batteries with higher CCA ratings than hot climates.
