Definition

Transport medium with sample collection swab allowing the collection of faecal specimens and preservation of bacteria present in the samples (e.g. Shigella, Salmonella, Yersinia). Cary-Blair is the transport medium used for the investigation of Vibrio cholerae, Shigella and Yersinia (Plague).

Instructions for use

Intended to transport bacteria to a referral laboratory for diagnostic confirmation and bacterial sensitivity test (Cholera, Shigella, plague, Neisseria).

Transport of samples

  • All samples must be identified (patient's name or code nº + date and place of sampling).
  • All samples must be sent with clinical and epidemiological data.
  • All samples must be transported in a triple packaging box to follow the mandatory air transport regulations and prevent any risk of leakage and contamination.
