RUSF peanut/chick peas paste

Definition

Ready-to-Use Supplementary Food (RUSF) in paste form is designed for children with Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM), following the WHO guidelines Supplementary foods for the management of moderate acute malnutrition in infants and children 6-59 months of age, 2012.

​RUSF can also be used as nutritional support in emergency situations.

Initially developed with peanuts, RUSF paste now available in formulations with corn and chickpeas. Acceptabilities studies have shown no significant difference in taste between the peanut-based and corn-based products, and both have the same nutritional properties.

Packaging & Labelling

The primary and secondary packaging must protect the hygienic and nutritional qualities of the product during transport, handling, and storage under MSF field conditions.

  • Primary packaging (unit packaging): 100 g aluminium sachet
  • Secondary packaging: box of 150 sachets

Instructions for use

This product does not require dilution or cooking. Its packaging facilitates direct consumption.

The product must not be subjected to ionising treatment.

Storage

  • Below 30ºC - Protect from sunlight - Protect from humidity
  • Shelf life: 24 months from the manufacturing date stated on the sachet.
  • After opening, consume the product within 24 hours.
