DRINK READY TO USE hypercaloric adult
Please always consider the MSF STD (NFOSDEAAHPFV8) before ordering a NST.
Definition
Ready-to-use hypercaloric liquid nutrition that can be used as a complete diet or as a nutritional supplement.
Hypercaloric drinks are intended for patients with high energy requirements who are able to swallow (enteral nutrition is intended for patients unable to swallow).
There are 2 types of ready-to-use hypercaloric drinks for adults:
- NORMO-protein for patients with high energy requirements and in case of fluids restriction (NFOSDRHANPWV2)
- HIGH-protein for patients with high energy requirements, hypercatabolism and severe catabolism (adult with burns or in case of major surgery or trauma) (NFOSDRHAHPWV2)
Remark: When possible, it is preferable to use powder (NFOSDEAAHPFV8) rather than ready-to-use drinks, as it is cheaper and versatile (can be used for oral and enteral nutrition, and can be reconstituted to different concentrations). The powder also has a longer shelf life (24 months).

MSF requirements
The hypercaloric and hyperprotein ready-to-use drink is well adapted for:
- adult patients with Viral Haemorrhagic Fever (EBOLA) who cannot have a normal diet or who suffer from severe anorexia
- burn and trauma patients
The ready-to-use drink is suitable, especially for VHF/EBOLA patients, to minimise the contact time with the patient.
