Therapeutic Action

Long-acting synthetic progestogen

Sayana Press® contains 30% less depot medroxyprogesterone acetate (DMPA) than the intramuscular formulation of Depo-Provera® (DMPA-IM). Its efficacy, safety and speed of action are equivalent to DMPA-IM.

Indications

Self-administration of long-acting female contraception (3 months)

Sayana Press® does not replace DMPA-IM. It is an additional contraceptive option for relevant contexts.

Instructions for use

Uniject system (single-use, pre-filled injection system) containing 104 mg depot-medroxyprogesterone acetate (DMPA) in 0.65 ml of suspension.

The Uniject system comprises a pre-filled reservoir of DMPA, a valve (auto-disable feature), a needle port, a short 23G needle for SC injection and a needle cap.

Administer every 3 months by SC injection in the abdomen or upper thigh.

Precautions for Use

Single use only

Do not administer by IM route.

Contraindicated during pregnancy.

Sayana Press® is suitable for community-based distribution and for women to administer themselves through self-injection. Self-administration should be initiated with the support of a healthcare professional. After proper training in injection technique and schedule of administration, patients may self-inject with Sayana Press® .

Storage

  • Below 25°C - Protect from sunlight
  • Do not refrigerate. Do not freeze.
  • Once open, use immediately. Discard any unused portion.
