Definition
Brain Heart Broth is a nutrient broth culture medium, containing brain and heart extracts, used in the culture of fastidious and non-fastidious microorganisms, including aerobic and anaerobic bacteria. It is also used for the storage of clinical or control isolates.

- Brain heart, infusion from (solids) 6 g
- Peptic digest of animal tissue 6 g
- Pancreatic digest of gelatin 14.5 g
- Dextrose 3 g
- Sodium chloride 5 g
- Disodium phosphate 2.5 g

Precautions for Use
All biological samples must be considered as potentially infectious and handled with the usual precautions (compulsory wearing of gloves, hand washing, etc.)
Storage
- Follow the recommendations of the manufacturer for the storage
- Keep dry
- Use before the expiry date
- Store prepared medium up to 6 months between 2°C and 8°C
Waste management
After use, sterilize the cultures and all contaminated material. Please contact your watsan referent for advice on proper disposal.
