CAUTION

This disc is worded and codified by unit to make the order easier, but it is always packaged in kit of 100 discs.

Definition

Optochin sensitivity test is used to differenciate Streptococcus pneumoniae from other alpha-haemolitic Streptococci, since most of S. pneumoniae are sensitive to optochin whereas the others are resistant. The test is performed on blood agar medium.

Precautions for Use

All biological samples must be considered as potentially infectious and handled with the usual precautions (compulsory wearing of gloves, hand washing, etc.).

Storage

  • Store between -20°C and 8°C.
  • Do not use beyond expiry date.
  • Keep away from sources of heat and avoid excessive changes in temperature.
  • Once opened from the desiccant-containing packaging, discs should be stored at 2-8°C and used within 7 days.
  • Eliminate without using if there are signs of deterioration
  • Shelflife: 24 months

Waste management

After use, sterilize the cultures and all contaminated material. Contact your watsan referent for advice on proper disposal.
