Function

To determine nitrites & nitrate concentration in the water

Nitrate poisoning would cause cases of methaemoglobinaemia which can cause asphyxia and death. Infants under three months of age are most at risk.

The nitrite concentration is measured semiquantitatively by visual comparison of the reaction zone of the test strip with the fields of a colour scale.
