Antipsychotic (neuroleptic)

Indications

Acute confusional state (delirium) and acute alcohol intoxication

Acute or chronic psychosis

Acute moderate to severe manic episode

Agitation or aggressive behaviour in patients with acute or chronic psychosis, in association with promethazine

Instructions for use

It is recommended to order biperiden (or trihexyphenidyl) together with haloperidol, to be given in the event of extrapyramidal disorders.

In some countries, haloperidol is on the list of narcotics: follow national regulations (Cf Introduction: Narcotic and psychotropic medicines under international control)

Precautions for Use

Do not administer in patients with cardiac disorders, dementia, Parkinson's disease and history of neuroleptic malignant syndrome.

Administer with caution and carefully monitor use in elderly patients and patients with hypokalaemia, hypotension, prostate disorders, renal or hepatic impairment, history of seizures.
