The standard fridge for storage of thermosensitive items such as laboratory material, drugs and vaccines. As Vestfrost stopped producing the MK-series and VLSA series, Vestfrost VLS-4 line has been selected as the new standard fridge for MSF.

Transport Dangerous Goods

The VLS504A AC contains 0.130 kg of R600a. According to IATA regulation, UN3358, SP A103, the maximum quantity authorized per cooling unit is 0.100 kg. That means the VLS504 cannotbe transported by air.

  • IATA Special Provision SP A103: more than 100gr gas cannot be transported by air

Instructions for use

Advantages:

  • The VLS-4 line is a so-called ‘green-line' model (less power, more efficient refrigerant and insulation)
  • The refrigerant gas R600a (instead of the old standard R134a) is more efficient
  • It has a longer hold-over time related to the old MK model, but similarly to VLSA models, with less power required (test done according to PQS protocols)
  • This model has passed the freeze protection grade A test (see PQS test protocol)
  • With the same capacity, it has a significant higher performance and uses less power
  • There is a hidden thermostat (knob)
  • No automatic alert when power is off
  • Stable temperature even when the fridge is full

Remarks:

  • Although R600a is a more flammable gas, no clear risks are expected.
  • The fridge is PQS approved by the WHO
  • Rated for use in ambient temperatures above 5°C and below 43°C
  • Note: The compressor will turn off when the room temperature is between 5 - 10°C

Precautions for Use

Installation:

See manual for installation. In the user manual, it says that you have to install the appliance in a room with a volume of minimal 1m3 per 8g of hydrocarbon refrigerant used in the appliance, which is indicated on the rating plate. The required room volume should be:

Door seal:

Similar as the old models from Vestfrost, Vestfrost recommends to change the complete lid if the seal is old or broken.

Spare parts:

For all VLS-4 line spare parts can be ordered and they are compatible with all VLSA models.

Thermostat:

To upgrade an even better performance in terms of termperature stability, the position of the sensor has been changed as compared to VLS-A models. The sensor is closer the inside back up water tank whereby the internal temperature is measured and controlled, and even considered more optimal. Illustration above (previous placement of sensor refers to position in VLSA models).

Gas:

R600a is a refrigerant gas which is a flammable. In case of leakage, the risks of explosion or fire are almost non-existent if the precautions for use have been respected (see user instructions for more details). In case of intervention on the refrigeration unit, make sure that the technician takes the necessary precautions and that an extinguisher is at hand.
