Function

  • MCBs are electromechanical devices which protect an electrical circuit from an overcurrent (thermal protection) and short circuits (magnetic protection)

  • an MCB functions by interrupting the continuity of electrical flow through the circuit once a fault is detected

  • curve B Specifics: designed to trip instantaneously between 3 to 5 times the rated current

    • comparison: this is more sensitive than the standard Curve C (which trips at 5-10x rated current)

    • application: curve B is strictly used for the protection of resistive loads (non-inductive) or circuits with long cable runs (where line impedance limits the short-circuit current)
