Therapeutic Action

Oxytocic compound, synthetic analogue of prostaglandin

Indications

Incomplete abortion (up to 22 weeks of amenorrhoea)

Save Abortion Care (SAC) (up to 22 weeks of amenorrhoea) in combination with oral mifepristone

Post-partum haemorrhage due to uterine atony, when injectable oxytocics are not available or ineffective

Cervical ripening before manual vacuum aspiration (MVA)

Provision of Safe Abortion Care, preferably in combination with mifepristone

Instructions for use

Depending the indication, misoprostol 200 µg may be given by oral, sublingual or vaginal route.

Precautions for Use

Do not use misoprostol in ectopic or molar pregnancy.

Misoprostol may cause nausea, diarrhoea, chills and fever (not persist longer than 24 hours after taking the medication).
