TENOFOVIR (TDF)/ EMTRICITABINE (FTC)/ EFAVIRENZ (EFV)

Efavirenz (EFV)-based combinations became non-standard. They are no longer the option of choice in first-line HIV treatment according to the WHO guidelines update 2021. Replaced by dolutegravir (DTG)-based combinations.

Therapeutic Action

Fixed-dose combination (FDC) of three antiretrovirals:

  • nucleotide reverse-transcriptase inhibitors (NRTI): tenofovir + emtricitabine
  • non-nucleoside reverse-transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI): efavirenz
