Retractor, Deaver
Definition
Deaver Retractor is a large, handheld retractor commonly used to hold back the abdominal wall during abdominal or thoracic procedures. It may also be used to move or hold organs away from the surgical site.
The Deaver retractor is shaped like a question mark with a thin, flat blade. The width of the handle is equal to the width of the retracting blade. It is available with a grip handle which is often held by a surgical assistant during procedures, or a flat handle so the retractor can be clamped into a position. The handle is slightly curved so as the hand gripping the retractor does not slip.
