KIT, SHELTER, for 100 families

Definition

Module allowing to set up basic waterproof shelters and/or to cover pre-existing shelters or buildings.

Indications

Plastic sheeting

See the CSHEPLASW++ technical sheet in the Logistic Catalogue Shelters family (CSHE).

Ropes

  • Twisted, made of polypropylene
  • Ø: 5 mm for the fastening, 14 mm for the roof ridge

Packaging

  • 10 rolls of plastic sheeting
  • 3 boxes with ropes and other equipment

Instructions for use

See the Oxfam guide "Plastic sheeting" and the shelter erection instructions (included in the kit).

The kit does not include poles and pegs, which must be found locally. If nothing is available, refer to your technical department.

  • Poles: aluminium, steel, plastic pipes (no PVC), bamboo, wood. 2 poles of 2 m are required per shelter.
  • Pegs: aluminium or steel. The required quality depends on the type of the ground. Reinforcing bars used for concrete are suitable for pegs. 14 pegs are required per shelter (4 for the poles + 5 on each side).

By cutting the plastic rolls in 3 different ways, the kit can provide:

  • 100 basic open shelters, 4 x 4 m, without groundsheet
  • 60 open shelters, 4 x 4 m, with groundsheet
  • 42 shelters closed on the sides, 4 x 4 m, with groundsheet

Only perforate the plastic sheets through the reinforced bands, to prevent tearing.

Repairs can be done using reinforced adhesive tape.

Plastic slackens with heat: tighten the shelters during the day time in order to prevent flapping.
