(mod. immunization) REFRIGERATION

Specifications

In the following text, the evaluation of the necessary capacity always refers to measles vaccines, meningitis vaccine and yellow fever vaccines in vials of 10 doses (1 dose = 2 cm3).

The choice for electrical energy is a matter of standardisation and efficiency.

The MK304 (108 litres) Vestfrost refrigerator requires only 8 hours of electricity per day thanks to its iceling.

The MF314 Vestfrost freezer (264 litres net, 323 litres gross) , with its fast freezing compartment, can produce 32.4 kg of ice (i.e. 54 ice packs of 0.6 l) per 24 hours with an external temperature of 43º C. It also allows to store 323 ice packs of 0.6 l. Ice production capacity is globally proportional to the hours' number of uninterrupted working. In 8 hours, it will produce ± 8 kg of ice. Production and conservation of ice are better if some frozen ice packs (as many as possible) stay always in the freezer.

Start the refrigerator and the freezer some days before the arrival of the vaccines in order to freeze the number of required ice packs in the freezer.

The solvents have not to be kept permanently in a cold place, but they need to be at the same temperature as the vaccines at the moment of reconstitution. They can be put in the refrigerator or in a coldbox the night before use.

Do not forget to organise a rotation system of the ice packs in order that the teams have always enough frozen ice packs.

The REFRIGERATOR MONITORING module is composed of articles allowing to monitor the temperature (thermometer, temperature monitoring card). The "Stop-Watch" card is meant to monitor the temperature of the refrigerator and not the temperature of the vaccines. It should permanently stay in the refrigerator.
