RUTF cereal biscuit (BP100)

Definition

Ready-To-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) in biscuit form is designed for patients with severe acute malnutrition (SAM) in the rehabilitation phase, in therapeutic feeding centres or outpatient settings.

Due to its iron content, this RUTF should not be used in the initial phase of treatment of severe acute malnutrition.

The nutritional properties of BP100 are identical to that of RUTF in paste form.

Packaging & Labelling

The primary and secondary packaging must protect the hygienic and nutritional qualities of the product during transport, handling, and storage under MSF field condition.

  • Primary packaging (unit packaging): cardboard box of 510 g containing 9 bars packed in a vacuum pack
  • Secondary packaging: carton of 24 boxes (12 kg net; 13.9 kg gross; 17.5 dm3)
  • Euro pallet: 55 cartons (122x79x121 cm)
  • 20' container: 1,500 cartons (18.4 MT net)

Instructions for use

This product can be consumed directly as a biscuit or crumbled into drinking water and consumed as a porridge (discard left over porridge after 2 hrs).

Its packaging facilitates direct consumption.

Caution! Do not use in children under 6 months of age.

If the product is poorly accepted, it can be substituted with Ready-To-Use Therapeutic Food in peanut paste form, which offers the same nutritional properties.

Storage

  • Below 30°C - Protect from sunlight ‐ Protect from humidity
  • The integrity of the packaging is essential.
  • Shelf life: maximum 48 months from the manufacturing date stated on the packaging
  • After opening, the product should be consumed within 2 weeks.
