CAUTION

Wheat flour (NFOSSCEPWMF01) and rice flour (NFOSSCEPRMF01) based products are non-standard as they are usually locally supplied by WFP via donation.

Definition

Pre-cooked Fortified Flour (PFF) with milk preferably for children aged 6-59 months.

The product should be used as a complement to breastfeeding for children aged 6 to 23 months, and to prevent malnutrition. The product is NOT a substitute for breast milk.

Synonym

The new term used by WFP, SUPER CEREAL+, replaces pre-cooked fortified flour with milk (CSB++).

Physical and organoleptic specifications

  • Texture:
    • Dispersibility: free from lumping or balling when mixed with water at room temperature
    • Particle size: fine and uniform texture with the following particle size:
      • 95% shall pass through a 600 micrometer sieve
      • 100% shall pass through a 1,000 microns sieve
  • Consistency (Bostwick test): min 100 mm/30s for 17% dry matter porridge
  • Anti-nutrients: urease index max. 0.20 pH units
  • Organoleptic quality:
    • Smell: pleasant (not rancid, not dusty, not musty)
    • Taste: tasty (not bitter, not acidic, not off-flavour)
    • Colour: clear, not dark / brown
  • Foreign matter: free from foreign matter or insects
  • Cooking time at simmering point: 5 minutes minimum and 10 minutes maximum
  • Peroxide value: max 10 meq/kg fat

Packaging & Labelling

Primary and secondary packaging must protect the hygienic and nutritional qualities of the product during transport, handling, storage under MSF field conditions.

  • Primary package (unit packaging): 1.5 kg sachet
  • Secondary packaging: cartons suitable for export and multiple handling

Instructions for use

Preparation

If Super Cereal+ is to be consumed as a porridge, it should be prepared by mixing an appropriate proportion of flour and clean water (50 g of Super Cereal+ with 250 g of water), followed by boiling at a simmer for 5 to 0 minutes.

The product shall not be consumed as a dry powder, without preparation or cooking.

Storage

  • Below 30ºC - Protect from sunlight - Protect from humidity
  • Shelf-life: 18 months min. (refer to the packaging)
  • Destroy immediately if the quality is in doubt.
