Jack planes are 12–18 inches (300–460 mm) long and 2.5–3 inches (64–76 mm) wide. The blade is 1.75–2.25 inches (44–57 mm) wide.
Function
The No. 5 is built for rougher work and will quickly flatten surfaces for the finer set planes to follow. Used for dressing timber down to the correct size in preparation for truing and/or edge jointing.
