Definition

Sterile hollow needle which is introduced into the medullary cavity of a long bone in order to permit an infusion, transfusion or administration of medicines in infants or children younger than 6 years.

The intra-osseous infusion is a temporary resuscitation technique used in emergency situations where IV route is not feasible or efficient.
