Definition
The MIC strip contains a specific concentration gradient of an antibiotic used to determine the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) for a particular organism, isolated from a clinical specimen by culture.

- Strip identification: MIC scale in μg/ml and a code that identify the antimicrobial agent printed on one side of the strip.

Instructions for use
- Only handle the strip at the top above the white chevron where the logo and antibiotic code are located
- Ensure that the pouches are stored so that they are not damaged or bent.
- Pouches be allowed to come to room temperature for about 30 minutes before opening to avoid condensation (possible interference).

Precautions for Use
All biological samples must be considered as potentially infectious and handled with the usual precautions (compulsory wearing of gloves, hand washing, etc.).
Storage
- Keep at -20°C to to 8°C (exception of carbapenems that should be store at -20°C)
- Once opened store at indicated temperatures, with dessicant, for up to 2 months.
- Shelf life: 36 months.
- Guaranteed minimum remaining shelf life at delivery: 1/3 of the total shelf life.
- Not to be used beyond expiry date.
- Protect strip from moisture, heat, excessive temperature variations and direct exposure to strong light at all times.
Waste management
After use, sterilize the cultures and all contaminated material. Please contact your watsan referent for advice on proper disposal.
