Definition
Mueller Hinton media is used for standardised testing of antimicrobials susceptibility testing (AST) with diffusion method for non-fastidious microorganisms.
Mueller Hinton media complemented with horse blood/sheep blood is used for AST for fastidious microorganisms.

Approximate formula after reconstitution (1 litre):
- Beef extract 2.0 g
- Acid hydrolysate of casein 17.5 g
- Starch 1.5 g
- Agar 17.0 g

- Fine, dry, homogeneous, free of extraneous material
- Prepared appearance: Light to medium, yellow to tan, trace hazy to slightly hazy

Instructions for use
- Follow the recommendations of the package insert.
- Do not use non homogenous media
- Properly close the bottle after use

Precautions for Use
All biological samples must be considered as potentially infectious and handled with the usual precautions (compulsory wearing of gloves, hand washing, etc.)
Storage
- Follow the recommendations of the manufacturer for the storage
- Preserved from humidity, store in cool and dry place
- Keep conainer tightly closed
- Do not use after expiry date
- After preparation, store the media maximum 3 weeks between 2°C and 8°C
Waste management
After use, sterilize the cultures and all contaminated material. Please contact your watsan referent for advice on proper disposal.
