DIPMETER water level, up to 50m

Form

Dipmeter water level, sounding apparatus made of a 50 meters.

The dipper comprises a stainless-steel probe fitted to a flexible graduated cable which is wound on a hand reel. The cable contains a transistorised switched circuit acting as a sensor. Audio and visual indicators and a battery are fixed on the housing of the reel. The sensor probe incorporates an insulating gap which acts as a switch, the circuit being completed when contact is made with the water.

Other name: Water level meter.

Fit

Often used together with a flow meter during pumping tests or for monitoring of wells.

Function

Used to check/determine the static and dynamic water levels inside boreholes and wells during pumping tests and monitoring.

When tape is lowered down a borehole and the sensor on the tip of the tape makes contact with water a buzzer sounds and an LED light in the reel comes on. A reading can then be taken from the tape at the top of the borehole to indicate the water depth.

Regardless if conducting a pumping test or monitor wells: do make sure to record all readings so they are available for further analysis and/or reference.

If dipper is not used: store it in a dry area, remove the battery and add info that battery is needed and should be replaced if dipper is in use again. Do not stretch the tape as this would result in incorrect readings.
