Live attenuated oral rotavirus vaccine

Indications

Active immunisation of infants from 6 weeks of age for prevention of gastroenteritis due to rotavirus infection.

The choice between Rotarix® and Rotasiil® vaccine will depend on which vaccine is introduced and registered in the country where it will be used.

Instructions for use

Oral suspension in liquid form

Shake the plastic tube before use to homogenise the suspension.

Squeeze the entire content of the tube into the child's mouth.

Two single oral dose presentations:

  • Rotarix® vaccine:
    • 1.5 ml of oral suspension in a squeezable tube (polyethylene)
    • two-dose vaccination schedule
  • Rotasiil® vaccine:
    • 2 ml of oral suspension in a squeezable tube (polyethylene)
    • three-dose vaccination schedule

Follow the national immunisation schedule.

Oral rotavirus vaccine may be co-administered with other routine childhood immunisations.

Precautions for Use

Do not administer by parenteral route.

Because of the typical age distribution of rotavirus gastroenteritis, rotavirus vaccination of children ≥ 24 months of age is not recommended.

Storage

  • Keep refrigerated between 2ºC and 8ºC - Protect from sunlight
  • Do not freeze.
  • After opening, use the vaccine immediately.
  • The vaccine vial monitor (VVM) is mandatory on each vaccine.
  • Due to high volume packaging, contact your supply centre when ordering.
