HAEMATOLOGY ANALYSER DRY (QBC)

Removed as MSF Standard in 2021.

POC heamatology analyzer will be replaced by WBC Diff and Sysmex only if manual platelet count can not be done the equipment will be considered.

Definition

The QBC Autoread Plus System is based on electro-optical linear measurements of the layers of packed blood cells (Quantitative Buffy Coat) in a haematocrit type tube. It provides a 9 parameter haematology profile of centrifuged capillary and venous blood.

The QBC tubes are internally coated with all the necessary reagents including acridine orange fluorochrome stain and anticoagulants (not present in venous tubes) to allow for measurements to take place.

A precision float is inserted into each tube to expand the buffy coat.

After sample collection in the QBC tube it is centrifuged at approx 12,000 rpm for 5 minutes. This separates blood cells into bands based on different densities allowing for the measurement of the 9 parameters described below.
