INSECTICIDE res. spray. pirimiphos-methyl, 30% 0.833l SC
Definition
Actellic 300CS is a long-lasting micro-encapsulated formulation of the organophosphate insecticide pirimiphos-methyl. It is specifically designed for indoor residual spraying operations, providing long term residual control of mosquitoes and other disease and nuisance vectors such as flies, cockroaches and other crawling insects.
Synonym
Pirimiphos-methyl insecticide.
Specifications
- Composition:
- active ingredient: pirimiphos-methyl 28.3% w/w
- solvent: naphtha (petroleum) 1-9% w/w
- other ingredients
- Micro-encapsulated organophosphate which is active by contact, ingestion, and vapour action
- This product causes toxicity through inhibition of acetylcholinesterase, which is responsible for the degradation of the excitatory neurotransmitter, acetylcholine, thereby terminating transmission of nerve impulses at cholinergic synapses. Inhibition of this enzyme prolongs the residence time of acetylcholine at synapses resulting in hyper-excitation and death.
- Effective against a broad spectrum of mosquito species and other disease vectors
- Non-staining after application
- Long duration of residual activity (depending on application and environmental conditions) on different substrates which allows for fewer yearly spray rounds in disease endemic areas
- More acceptable odour profile
- WHOPES-approved insecticide formulation for indoor residual spraying
Packaging & Labelling
Plastic container. Contains 300 gram of active ingredient per litre. A bottle contains 250 gram of active ingredient.
Instructions for use
- Apply according to product label instructions, using appropriate application equipment and personal protective equipment
- See also "Public Health Engineering in Precarious Situations", MSF, 2nd edition 2010, Chapter 7 Vector control.
- Product should be applied using MSF-approved compression sprayer incorporating a 8002e flat fan nozzle
- Dilute the product according to instructions on the packaging with clean water
- Actellic 300CS 833.3 ml is meant to be mixed in 9166.7 ml of water for a total of 10000 ml of insecticide solution when applied with MSF-approved compression sprayer with 8002e flat-fan nozzle without a CFV (Control Flow Valve)
- Actellic 300CS 833.3 ml is meant to be mixed in 6667 ml of water for a total volume of 7500 ml of insecticide solution when applied with MSF-approved compression sprayer with 8002e flat-fan nozzle with “red” 1.5 bar CFV
- Surfaces should be cleaned prior to application
- Product is ideal for utilization within the implementation of an insecticide resistance management strategy
- Avoid applying to wet or moist surfaces, as this might reduce its effectiveness
- The duration of residual persistence is expected to be between 6 -9 months depending upon the accuracy of application and characteristics of the substrate and environment
- When planning an IRS campaign, refer to your technical referent for advice
Precautions for Use
Actellic 300CS is an insecticide of the WHO class U: “unlikely to present a hazard” and does not pose undue risk to spray operators and residents of households if used as directed. It is essential that spillage into waterbodies is prevented, as the active ingredient pirimiphos-methyl is very toxic to aquatic organisms. Pirimiphos-methyl is also toxic to birds and bees.
- Keep out of reach of children
- Do not eat, drink or smoke during the application of insecticides
- Do not inhale powder and avoid direct contact with eyes and skin
- If poisoning is suspected call a physician and provide the product label
- In the event of contact with the skin, remove all contaminated clothing and wash affected body parts immediately with plenty of soap and water
- Rinse splashes in the eyes with abundant fresh and clean water for several minutes
- If inhaled remove individual to clean air immediately
- Wash thoroughly after direct contact and seek medical advice if needed, in case of skin irritation and/or eye irritation
- Wear personal protective equipment (FFP2 respirator, goggles, overalls, gloves, boots, hat, and apron) when handling, mixing and applying the insecticide
- After application persons should shower and wash all PPE
- Remove all food, cooking utensils, water storage containers, persons, domestic animals, and other removable items before application
- Cover all non-removable items with plastic sheeting in a central location within a household or structure during application
- Spray operators should be well-trained with clear instructions about storage, handling, application and individual personal protection
- Supervise the handling of empty containers back to storage
- This product is hazardous to the environment
- Residues or discarded/expired product should not be disposed of with regular waste
- Prevent spill from entering drains, sewers or any body of water by using a properly constructed soak away pit for waste water and rinse water
- Contact your technical referent for appropriate disposal procedures
Storage
- It is desirable to store insecticide stock and spray equipment in a stand-alone structure
- Product should be stored under lock-and-key away from children, food and animals
- Do NOT stack containers in piles more than 2 metre high, in order to avoid product compaction
- Do NOT store below +5°C or above +35°C
- Store in tightly sealed original containers in a cool, dry and well-ventilated area out of direct sunlight
Waste management
- Containers should be TRIPLE RINSED using clean water during the mixing process with the rinsate added directly to spray tank for application
- Empty containers should be punctured a minimum of 3 times to discourage any potential further use in the event of an empty container being lost within the community
- Do NOT dispose of undiluted chemicals on-site
- Insecticide solution, undiluted product, or rinse wastewater must not enter waterways
- Contact your technical referent for advice on appropriate waste disposal
