ABSORBENT PAD adult, moderate/heavy incontinence

Definition

A disposable pad composed of absorbent materials that is worn inside any incontinence undergarment to catch and retain urine from an incontinent person.

Specifications

Absorbency rating: moderate to heavy incontinence and loose stools.

Two-piece system: pad to be worn with fixation pants.

Disposable

Suitable for female and male adult use.

The incontinence pads absorb urine and neutralizes odour without adding perfumes or scents.

  • shaped to contour the body and have double leg cuffs to help prevent leakage and increase protection
  • leakage guards
  • porous top-sheet: must allow liquid to flow through it, draws liquid away from the skin, so the skin is kept dry
  • absorbing core: absorbs, distributes and retains liquid under pressure
  • impermeable back sheet: keeps clothes and bedding dry
  • wetness indicator makes it easy for care taker to identify when a shaped pad needs to be changed
  • absorbency colour-coded for easy identification (brand specific!)

Instructions for use

Body worn disposable incontinence pads are required for people who: do not respond to treatment of their incontinence problem; are too ill or have a disability that prevents them from using a toilet.

Pads reduce the wetness of the skin, maintain the pH of the skin as near normal as possible and ensure the separation of faces from urine, minimising the potential of faecal enzymes to cause skin irritation.
