Therapeutic Action
Biguanide hypoglycaemic (facilitates insulin action)
Indications
First-line treatment of type-2 diabetes, when diet and lifestyle measures alone are insufficient.
Instructions for use
Metformin is used:
- as monotherapy
- in combination with glibenclamide or gliclazide, when glycaemic control is inadequate with metformin alone.
Precautions for Use
Contraindicated in patients with hepatic or renal failure.
Caution must be taken in patients with B12 deficiency,
Monitor the association with anti-tuberculosis medication (Bedaquiline, Linezolid).
