VACCINE POLIOMYELITIS INACTIVATED IPV

CAUTION

Access to vaccines is difficult for MSF supply centres as global production does not meet the needs. Contact the national immunisation programme to get access to this vaccine.

The multidose vaccine is worded and codified by unit (= 1 dose) to make the order easier.

Therapeutic Action

Trivalent inactivated vaccine containing poliovirus type 1, type 2 and type 3

Indications

Active immunisation against poliomyelitis, alone or in combination with the oral poliomyelitis vaccine (bOPV).

Follow the national immunisation calender and Global Polio Eradication Initiative recommendations.

Can be used in campaigns in response to active polio transmission as well as to do catch-up of age groups not covered in the years (since the switch from tOPV to bOPV).

Instructions for use

Suspension in liquid form

Must be given by IM route.

Orders are always done in number of doses and not in number of vials! (See Preliminary remarks on Vaccines)

Precautions for Use

As with all injectable vaccines and/or immunoglobulins, appropriate medical treatment should always be readily available in case of rare anaphylactic reactions following the administration of the product.

Storage

  • Keep refrigerated between 2ºC and 8º C - Protect from sunlight
  • Do not freeze.
  • The vaccine vial monitor (VVM) is mandatory on each vaccine.
  • Refer to the manufacturer's instructions for information on the application of the open vial policy.
