CABLE LUG contained palm, copper, 150mm², eyelet M12
Valid Article
CABLE LUG, crimp, tinned copper
Definition
Heavy-duty tubular crimp ring terminals are used for connecting multi-stranded cables to a stud or a post on an electrical device such as battery terminal, generator or UPS.
These tubular terminals are made from thick-walled, heavy-duty, highly conductive copper and are tin plated.
Connecting these tubular terminals to a cable is done by crimping, i.e. solderless. For crimping the tubular terminal an appropriate crimping tool is required.
Per piece.
Synonym
Heavy-duty tubular crimp ring terminals are shortly named as tubular terminals, ring connector or cable lugs.
Specifications
- contact material: copper, tin plated
- insulation type: non-insulated
- cable termination: ring
- wire connection:
- Tubular terminals are available with different barrel sizes. The barrel size must correspond with the diameter of the wire to which the terminal gets attached.
- eyelet (=stud connection):
- Tubular terminals are available with different eyelet sizes, i.e. the diameter of the hole in the terminal. The eyelet size must correspond with the stud or screw size to which the terminal gets attached. Some examples: M6, M8, M10, ...
Technical specifications
Each type of tubular terminal is made for a specific wire size and to be fitted to a stud or screw of a certain diameter. Always use tubular terminals only with the matching diameters. Only if the sizes match a reliable and conductive connection will be achieved.
Versions:
- contained palm: narrow version that fits to narrow connector openings (MCB's)
- inspection hole: version with an inspection hole for verifying that wire is inserted full length
Instructions for use
Follow below steps for crimping correctly a tubular terminal:
- Measure the diameter of the stud and the wire. Use these measurements to select the correct eyelet and barrel size of the tubular terminal.
- Strip and cut the end of the wire to the same length as the conductor of the terminal.
- Insert the wire into the barrel of the terminal. Make sure no bare wire remains visible.
- The crimp terminal is ready to be crimped at the end of the cable using the correct crimping tool, namely a heavy-duty ratchet crimping tool. The handles of the ratchet tool will remain locked until a full crimp cycle is completed. This is important to prevent partial crimps.
- Now the barrel of the terminal simply needs to be inserted into the appropriate section of the crimping plier. Then the tool handles can then be squeezed together until the ratchet mechanism allows them to be released.
- Finally, the crimped tubular terminal can then be placed over the stud or post and fixed in place with a nut.
